Software
Home Assistant
A local hub for device state, dashboards, and automations.
What it does
Integrations expose devices as entities. Automations combine triggers, conditions, and actions; helpers let you prototype a rule without buying hardware.
Connections and compatibility
Use a supported installation on existing equipment where practical. Devices and the hub need a reachable local network; remote access is a separate decision.
Choosing one
Start with a test installation and helpers. Add a dedicated always-on host only when the project needs it.
Common mistakes
A host that is sleeping or offline cannot run its automations. Back up before updates and avoid using a new DIY automation as the only protection for people or property.
